Portable High Head Water Pump
Two-person portable high-pressure pumping system for vertical water lifting, elevated discharge, and long-distance transfer in locations inaccessible to vehicle-mounted equipment
The Portable High Head Water Pump is a two-stage centrifugal unit engineered for high-pressure delivery in portable form. The pump generates 120 meters of head at a flow rate of 180 m³/h, with a maximum pressure of 22 bar. The two-stage impeller configuration provides a steep head-flow characteristic, maintaining stable discharge pressure across a wide operating range. The pump casing is cast aluminium with a stainless steel wear insert, and the impeller is stainless steel with a balanced two-vane design. A double mechanical seal with silicon carbide faces handles the elevated pressure without leakage. The unit is self-priming to 6 meters and includes an integrated pressure relief valve set at 25 bar. The discharge connection is a 100 mm (4 inch) high-pressure flange, and the suction inlet is a 100 mm flange with a 25 mm strainer opening.
The two-stage impeller arrangement places two impellers in series within a compact casing, each contributing approximately 60 meters of head. This series configuration generates 120 meters of total head without the axial length required by a single high-head impeller. The cast aluminium casing and stainless steel impellers keep the rotating assembly lightweight, enabling the 34 kg total unit weight. The balanced two-vane impeller design minimizes vibration at high rotational speeds.
At rated pressure of 22 bar, the pump can transfer water horizontally over approximately 900 meters through a 100 mm high-pressure hose. At this distance, friction losses consume approximately 20 bar of the available pressure, leaving 2 bar for elevation and discharge. For longer distances, larger diameter hose or relay pumping arrangements are recommended. The performance reference table shows the relationship between flow, head, and distance.
The unit is designed for two-person transport due to the 34 kg dry weight and the requirement to maneuver hoses and connections. However, a single operator can move the unit over short distances on flat surfaces using the frame handles. For deployment involving stairs, confined spaces, or uneven terrain, two operators are recommended for safety and efficiency. The carry frame includes four balanced handles to facilitate two-person lifting.
The double mechanical seal with silicon carbide faces requires inspection every 300 operating hours. Seal face wear should be checked visually and measured with a micrometer. The seal cartridge is a field-replaceable assembly, with replacement recommended at 800 hours or if leakage exceeds 5 drops per minute. The buffer fluid chamber between the two seal stages should be checked for contamination at each inspection. Clean water flushing of the seal chamber is recommended after each deployment in abrasive water.
The standard configuration operates from -10°C to 45°C. For operation below -10°C, a cold-weather preparation is recommended that includes low-temperature engine oil, a carburetor heater kit, and drain provisions for the pump casing and hoses. The mechanical seal is compatible with low-temperature operation. After shutdown in freezing conditions, the pump casing and hoses must be drained to prevent ice damage. The recoil start system includes decompression for reliable cold starting.
