High Head Emergency Water Pump
High-pressure pumping system engineered for vertical water transfer, elevated discharge, and long-distance emergency water delivery in municipal and industrial response operations
The High Head Emergency Water Pump is a multi-stage centrifugal unit designed for applications requiring elevated discharge pressures and extended horizontal transfer distances. The pump employs a four-stage impeller configuration with a high-pressure casing rated for 40 bar working pressure. The hydraulic design prioritizes stable head generation across a wide flow range, maintaining at least 85 percent of rated head at flows between 120 and 320 m³/h. The pump is constructed with a ductile iron casing, stainless steel impellers, and a tungsten carbide mechanical seal assembly. A 6-inch discharge outlet with a high-pressure flange connection is standard. The pump is self-priming up to 7 meters of suction lift and includes an integrated pressure relief valve set at 44 bar to protect the system from overpressure.
The pump uses a four-stage impeller arrangement with a steep head-flow characteristic. At maximum flow, the head remains above 92 meters, while at reduced flow the head rises to 180 meters. This characteristic ensures stable discharge pressure even when downstream demand fluctuates. The electronic engine governor adjusts speed to maintain the selected operating point, and the integrated pressure relief valve protects against sudden deadheading.
At maximum discharge pressure of 40 bar, the pump can transfer water horizontally over 2,200 meters through a 150 mm pipe. At this distance, friction losses account for approximately 35 bar of the total pressure, leaving 5 bar for elevation. For longer distances, larger pipe diameters or relay pumping arrangements are recommended. The pump maintains at least 20 bar of usable pressure at 1,500 meters of horizontal run.
The standard configuration operates from -15°C to 50°C. For sustained operation below -15°C, a cold-weather package is available that includes an engine block heater, battery warming blankets, arctic-grade hydraulic and engine oils, and heated control enclosure. This extends the operating range to -35°C. The mechanical seal is compatible with low-temperature operation, and the pump casing includes a drain port for freeze protection when the unit is shut down.
The discharge outlet is a 150 mm (6 inch) high-pressure flange rated at 40 bar. Standard supply includes a 30-meter high-pressure hose with matching flanges. For permanent installations or longer runs, steel or composite pipe with 40 bar rating is recommended. The suction inlet is a 150 mm flange with a strainer having 30 mm openings. All fittings must be rated for the maximum discharge pressure of the pump.
For high-head service, the following intervals apply: engine oil and filter change every 250 hours. Mechanical seal inspection every 500 hours, with replacement recommended at 1,500 hours. Impeller and wear ring inspection every 1,500 hours. Discharge valve and relief valve verification annually. High-pressure hose inspection before each deployment, with replacement every 3 years regardless of condition. Pressure gauge calibration annually.
