Remote Controlled Drainage Robot
Wireless inspection and intervention platform for municipal drainage networks, industrial outfalls, and stormwater conduits
The Remote Controlled Drainage Robot is a tethered, wirelessly operated inspection platform engineered for municipal and industrial drainage networks. The system comprises a tracked crawler unit, a portable control console, and a fiber-optic tether management drum. The crawler carries a pan-tilt-zoom camera, a laser profiler for cross-section measurement, and a multi-parameter water quality sonde. The control console features a 10-inch daylight-readable display, dual joysticks, and a data logging module. Operation is conducted via a 2.4 GHz digital radio link with automatic frequency hopping, providing reliable control in underground environments. The robot is rated IP68 for continuous submersion and can operate in pipe diameters from DN 300 to DN 2000. All inspection data are georeferenced and exported in standard formats for integration with municipal asset management systems.
The standard tether allows inspection of up to 200 meters from the access point in a single deployment. An optional 500-meter tether is available for longer runs. The radio control range is 800 meters line-of-sight or approximately 300 meters in buried conduits, sufficient for most municipal inspection programs.
Yes. The system exports data in GeoJSON, Shapefile, and CSV formats with pipe ID, chainage, GPS coordinates, and defect codes. This enables direct import into Esri ArcGIS, QGIS, and most municipal asset management systems including Cityworks and Maximo.
Optical windows should be cleaned after each deployment. Water quality sensors require calibration every 30 days using standard solutions. The laser profiler requires annual factory calibration. Track tension and sealing rings should be inspected every 50 operating hours.
The robot is rated for operation in flows up to 2.5 m/s. For higher velocities, a high-flow stabilizer accessory is available. The IP68 rating permits continuous submersion, and the tracked chassis maintains traction on wet and sediment-covered surfaces.
Each system includes a 2-day operator certification course covering deployment, control, data interpretation, and basic maintenance. Technical support is available via phone and email, with regional service centers providing 48-hour response for critical issues.
